About the Artist, Mari Hall

Mari Hall, Artist
Mari Hall in Seattle, Washington, 1997

Thank you for visiting my art website!

I am a painter who also enjoys working in digital media. I have been painting for over 25 years. I grew up in the Los Angeles and Pomona Valley area of Southern California. I began studying painting in my late 20's. I work primarily in oil paint. Sometimes I do a bit of painting in watercolor and gouache paints. I have exhibited in various cities, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York City, Philadelphia. I was invited to participate in a juried show in Europe (Ferrara, Italy) in 2003. It was a great experience to do a show in Italy.

My artwork has been published in magazines such as NonProfit Quarterly (Boston, Massachusetts) and University of Denver Magazine Arts & Culture (University of Denver). One of my digital artworks ("Tarot: The Moon") was exhibited in Cuba as part of an international digital art exhibition. I was very honored to be selected to do a First Day Cover painting for Unicover Corporation, in 2005. This was in commemoration of the USPS stamp released to celebrate the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. My painting entitled, "Standing Tall on a New Day" was the First Day Cover for the Lawrence Jacob painting, "Dixie Cafe" used on this stamp. I enjoy being a visually creative person very much. Being reflective and having fun at the same time, is part of my artistic expression.

Artist Statement: Art in the Key of Life

I think of art as one of the Universal Languages. It speaks of things that are difficult or simply inexpressible in words. It touches the hearts of everyone in one way or another, regardless of race, creed, gender or cultural background. Art is a reflection of our shared humanity. It is from this viewpoint that I create my art work.

For a while I had the opportunity to live in Haiti. It was an amazing journey into another world so different from the one to which I was accustomed. My painting changed dramatically from having lived there.

The new millenium created dramatic changes on a global scale. Exhibiting on the internet is part of this transformation. We are dreaming developing drifting with a new tide of widespread change. These changes have become part of my artistic expression.

I now embrace a vegan lifestyle. It is a lifetime commitment for me, a reflection of my life experiences.

SPECIAL ART PIECE:
"A Heart Story" is a short animation that Mari Hall did in response to the tragedy of 9/11. She did this short animation in Flash, in 2001, shortly after the attacks. Prayers for peace for our country and abroad.
